Media Relations - Ashworth High Security Hospital
Crisis Media Relations:
- The very nature of the hospital meant that on occasion there would be ward fires, violence between patients and against staff, patient suicides and even hostage situations. Many of these events were of great interest to the media, which Amanda dealt with as well as acting as hospital spokesperson
Video Production - Ashworth Hospital
Balanced programmes and news clips:
- Amanda persuaded the senior management team in the hospital to allow TV cameras into Ashworth Hospital for the first time to show what life was really like inside. Some excellently balanced programmes and news clips were filmed that revealed the different aspects of hospital life whilst maintaining patient confidentiality. A big plus to this approach was that TV companies now had new library footage of inside the hospital to show when they reported on events, rather than the shots of the hospital walls
- Amanda also commissioned an award winning video about the hospital that was shown to new patients, relatives and others about life inside the hospital
Media Relations - Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council

- Amanda assisted Television South (TVS) to prepare and produce a live broadcast from the Gatwick Airport called Airport 90. It was presented by Fern Brittan and Nick Owen. It involved six months of preparation, pre-recording and assisting the TV Company to select subjects to record 'as live'
Media Relations - Gatwick Airport
Crisis Media Relations:
- Right at the beginning of the first Gulf war, many of the British evacuees were brought back through Gatwick Airport. Amanda led a team of press officers that dealt with the multitude of national and international media. Planes would land without the authorities being certain of who was on the plane and what state the evacuees were in. Obviously, the media wanted to get this information as soon as possible and Amanda and her team were the official spokespersons for the airport
